The start of the project coincides with the centenary of the outbreak of The Great War (1914-18) but will be centring around the Battle of Somme, summer 1916, where young men in a discouraging landscape of mud and barbed wire fought an absurd battle in an attempt to break the static front line. More than 60.000 lost their lives during the first days of the battle. One year later the front line had not moved much more than one kilometre.
Without doubt 2014 will show several important ceremonies and celebrations from official side. Our goal is not to commemorate the outbreak of the war, but rather to use the 100th anniversary for a reflection on certain aspects of the conflict. For this we have allocated 4 years, the same time it would take to have the war brought to an end, to play concerts and recitals around Europe, and to publish a series of audio and video materials on the subject of war.
